Bomboti: A Hidden Gem in Polanco, Mexico City

Mexico City is fast becoming a global destination for those looking to uncover unique art and design pieces. One of my favorite recent discoveries is Bomboti, a multidisciplinary lifestyle studio that effortlessly blends art, design, and craftsmanship. Located in the heart of the vibrant Polanco neighborhood, Bomboti transcends the typical shopping experience.

Founded by Andrés Mier y Terán and Regina Galvanduque, Bomboti isn’t just a gallery or a store; it’s a creative platform that celebrates the fusion of traditional Mexican craftsmanship with innovative design. When you step inside, you're greeted by a double-height bookcase filled with a carefully curated selection of ornamental objects, books, and music. As you move upstairs, you’re enveloped by a gallery showcasing artisanal furniture, lighting, and textiles—each piece reflecting the unique craftsmanship of Mexico's finest artisans. These are not just products, they are exclusive pieces that you won't find anywhere else, making a visit to Bomboti a truly unique experience.

Bomboti’s third-floor studio, housed in a solar-paneled Nordic-style glasshouse, serves as an experimental space where invited creators push the boundaries of art and design. Here, traditional methods merge with contemporary creativity, resulting in limited-edition pieces that offer the best of both worlds. This fusion of the old and the new is not just intriguing, it's exciting, and it's something you won't find anywhere else.

What makes Bomboti truly unique is its multi-sensory experience. While I haven’t yet tried their signature Bomboti mezcal, it’s beautifully designed and available for purchase, offering visitors a chance to bring home a taste of Mexican culture. The café downstairs is not only a relaxing spot to unwind but also offers Bomboti marmalade, salsas, and other artisanal products, letting you take home even more of Mexico’s craftsmanship. Bomboti is more than just a place to shop—it’s an immersive experience that engages all your senses, stimulating your taste, sight, and touch. It’s a hidden gem that shouldn’t be missed when visiting CDMX, and it's an experience that will stay with you long after you've left.
